Ceramics: Raku PotteryFULLwith Jeremy Young Material and Lab fee of $20, Registration Fee of $80 Wednesdays 6pm-8pm Aug 15th, 22th, 29th and Saturday Sept 8th, 9am-1pm Jeremy goes all out for this class! His last raku class in June/July was a hit! Students had a blast! Clay, fire, smoke... you can't beat it! Raku ware is a type of Japanese pottery that is traditionally characterized by fairly porous vessels, which result from low firing temperatures. It is raku’s unpredictable results and intense color that attract modern potters. These patterns and color result from the harsh cooling process and the amount of oxygen that is allowed to reach the pottery. Depending on what effect the artist wants, the pottery is either instantly cooled in water, cooled slowly in the open air, or placed in a barrel filled with combustible material, such as newspaper, covered, and allowed to smoke. The pottery is purely decorative and not food safe. This class is for students of all levels. Material and Lab fee includes 12.5 lbs of raku clay, glaze, firing fuels and open studio time.
