Wabi Sabi

wah-bee-sah-bee ] Japanese

noun

a Japanese aesthetic concept that finds beauty and serenity in objects, landscapes, designs, etc., that are simple, imperfect, and impermanent

In my exhibition, I aim to capture the essence of quiet calmness through the fusion of portraiture and the ethereal beauty of clouds. Through my artwork, I invite viewers to experience a sense of tranquility and introspection.

The human face has always fascinated me as a subject of artistic expression. Portraiture allows me to delve into the complexity of flesh and the stories they hold. By combining this with the serene nature of clouds, I seek to create a visual narrative that evokes a peaceful and reflective mood.

With their ever-changing forms and gentle movements, clouds represent a sense of boundlessness and freedom. They offer a natural canvas upon which emotions can be projected and interpreted. By incorporating them into my artwork, I aim to create a visual language that speaks to the viewer’s emotions and invites contemplation.

Throughout my process, I pay meticulous attention to the interplay of light and shadow, as they bring depth and dimension to my portraits. I use soft brushstrokes and delicate color palettes to further enhance the feeling of tranquility and evoke a sense of calmness within the viewer.

Each artwork in this exhibition aims to capture a moment of quiet introspection, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and find solace in the beauty of the human face and the serenity of clouds. Through my art, I hope to create an atmosphere that allows individuals to escape the noise of their daily lives and find a moment of respite.

I invite you to join me on this visual journey of exploring the serenity of portraiture and clouds. May you find solace and inspiration in the quiet calmness that unfolds before you.

Sincerely,

Austin Roberts
