The Art Center

Summer Marketing Assistant Application

The Quincy Art Center is seeking high school students and 2023 graduates to apply for one paid summer Student Marketing Employee position through our Illinois Arts Council Summer Youth Employment in the Arts Project Grant. Students currently enrolled in high school and 2023 graduates are eligible to apply. Applicants should be interested in pursuing careers in the visual arts and/or marketing, and able to commit to the entire nine weeks. The Student Employee positions are scheduled for June 5 – Aug 4, 2023 at approximately 10 hours per week. Compensation is $13 per hour.

The Student Employee’s specific responsibilities:

  1. Work with the Director of Education to build skills with Adobe products such as Illustrator, InDesign, Spark, and Rush (artistic)
  2. Coordinate with Director of Education for new marketing strategies for summer programming and social media (administrative)
  3. Construct approved graphic design templates and layouts for use by the Director of Marketing (artistic)
  4. Assist with composing marketing materials, and compiling information for the annual report.

The Student Employee will gain knowledge of marketing strategies, specifically focusing on graphic design. Marketing job responsibilities will lead to expanded knowledge of how to translate a mission into marketing, organizing materials to bring awareness of events, classes, and opportunities, and archiving for future marketing. The vast amount of experience gained will truly benefit a student employee that is pursuing a career in the visual arts, graphic design, or marketing.

The primary supervisors for the Student Employee in all marketing and design tasks will be the Director of Education and the Director of Marketing. The Direct of Education and Director of Marketing will train the Youth Employee daily during the first week followed by weekly training meetings for the following weeks. Near the conclusion of employment, a press release detailing the Student Employee’s experiences will be sent to the local newspaper and featured on the Quincy Art Center’s online platform. An exit interview will also be conducted to help the Quincy Art Center further strengthen the program for future student employees.

Applications are due Thursday, May 18, 2023.  To apply, please complete the application form on the website and attach files of your cover letter, two references, resume, and examples of graphic design work.  This project is funded by the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
